Hugging, pats on the back and other appropriate affection between staff or volunteers and children are important for children’s development and are generally suitable in a church setting. Inappropriate touching or displays of affection are forbidden and must be reported immediately to a staff member. Physical contact must be for the benefit of the child, never based on the emotional needs of a staff member or volunteer, and should take place only in observable places or in the presence of other children or adults.
